HOT OFF THE PRESSES!
For many of us, the summer season can be summed up in one word: vacation! But there's no need to leave your house or apartment if you're looking for a change of scenery, because the cool new books we've assembled this month will transport you to strange and exciting places: under water, through outer space, and into a magical world populated by elves, fairies and other mythical creatures. Along the way, meet a number of famous people from different walks of life who have each made major contributions to America, and travel back in time to the year 1587 to try to solve a mystery that has puzzled people for years!
See Cool New Books for July.

Question of the Month

What character from a book could you see yourself being best friends with and why?

Send your replies to Question@kidsreads.com.
Series Feature: First Person Fiction
http://www.kidsreads.com/series/series-first-person.asp
In this day and age when we have so many opportunities in life and much to be thankful for, we tend to forget about those who helped build the United States in the first place --- the thousands upon thousands of immigrants who came here to escape poverty, persecution, war, and illness in their homelands. What we sometimes don't realize is that, even today, people are still coming to these shores for the same reasons.

In this feature, you'll learn more about the books in this marvelous series, meet the people who have written them, take a challenging quiz, and much more!
Read our First Person Fiction series feature here.

Junie B. Jones Has Her OWN Website

Can you believe all the new characters that were introduced in HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX? Tough to keep track of them, isn't it? That's why we created a "character list." It's a great way to remember who...is who. Thanks to Wiley Saichek for this and our Trivia Games!
A list of the NEW characters in HP5 can be found here.

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX by J.K. Rowling
Slander campaigns. Teachers who make life miserable. Difficult school exams. Frightening nightmares that won't go away. These are just some of the challenges 15-year-old Harry Potter faces as he enters his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Unfortunately, his problems never seem to go away. Reviewed by Carlie Kraft.

But soon, Hercules stumbles upon evidence of an enemy that lurks within the walls, and it's up to him to keep his friends safe. Reviewed by Marya Jansen-Gruber.

RODZINA by Karen Cushman

RUBY ELECTRIC by Theresa Nelson
Aspiring screenwriter Ruby Miller doesn't feel like much of a Hollywood bigshot when she's accused of vandalism and is forced to perform community service with two classmates who are far from intelligent. How will she be able to cope with these unfortunate circumstances? Reviewed by Norah Piehl.

WHERE I'D LIKE TO BE by Frances O'Roark Dowell
Twelve-year-old Maddie, who currently resides at the East Tennessee Children's Home, desperately wants to find a place that she can truly call "home." She even creates a "book of houses," which contains pictures of all the places she would like to live in. Maddie shows her scrapbook to a girl named Murphy, never anticipating that this one gesture would challenge her very ideas of what home and family are all about. Reviewed by Ashley Hartlaub.
