Reading Away the Rainy Days
|
|
If the saying “April showers bring May flowers” holds true, then we’re expecting to have flowers coming out of our ears here at Kidsreads.com. April has been the rainiest, stormiest, yuckiest month we’ve seen in a long time, and by now we just want spring to be here! Luckily for us, one of the best ways to beat the rainy-day blues is with a good book. In fact, a couple of particularly soggy weekends have taught us that books really do make everything better.
It’s with this in mind that we bring you our newest update of Kidsreads.com --- it’s so full of information about series books and new titles to get excited about that you’ll be covered if it rains until June! Our latest series features are Red Rock Mysteries and Winnie the Horse Gentler, and again we are spotlighting the Septimus Heap and Little House series. Whether you like action, animals, fantasy or history, you’re sure to find series titles that suit your taste on Kidsreads.com. Check out the features to see the newest books, read about the characters and play fun trivia games and puzzles.
Already have a favorite series? We have all the details on the newest updates to the series you love. From Rotten School to Geronimo Stilton we keep you posted on all the newest must-reads. Speaking of which, our Cool New Books feature brings you titles you’ll want to stock up on for lazy weekends, rainy afternoons and long car trips. And our New in Paperback roundup is perfect for thrifty readers who like to wait until a book comes out in paperback before spending their money.
Two books that really ARE worth the money are our featured “Don’t Miss” titles --- THE WIZARDOLOGY HANDBOOK and PIRATEOLOGY: GUIDEBOOK AND MODEL SET by Dugald A. Steer. And speaking of shopping for books, our poll and question focus on your book-buying habits.
Along with our regular reviews and features, we are spotlighting SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT by Derek Landy and ATHERTON: THE HOUSE OF POWER by Patrick Carman. Be sure to check out the official website of SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT where you can read more about the book, enter the Skulduggery Pleasant Sweepstakes for your chance to win some fabulous prizes, watch the Skulduggery video (and send your friends a personalized Skulduggery Pleasant video), play a cool game, and much more!
One final note: don’t forget that May 13th is Mother’s Day! Being a mom myself I know we’re pretty easy to please. Give us a nice card, breakfast in bed, some flowers, even a couple of extra hugs, and we’ll be happy. If you ARE thinking that a gift is the way to go, may I suggest a book?

Special Feature: SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT by Derek Landy
|
|
SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT by Derek Landy Meet Skulduggery Pleasant. Sure, he may lose his head now and again (in fact, he won his current skull in a poker match), but he is much more than he appears to be --- which is good, considering that he is, basically, a skeleton. Skulduggery may be long dead, but he is also a mage who dodged the grave so that he could save the world from an ancient evil. But to defeat it, he'll need the help of a new partner: a not-so-innocent 12-year-old girl named Stephanie.
To coincide with the release of SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT, HarperCollins Children's Books has created an amazing website, www.SkulduggeryPleasant.com/us. Here, you can read more about the book, enter the Skulduggery Pleasant Sweepstakes for your chance to win some fabulous prizes, watch the Skulduggery video (and send your friends a personalized Skulduggery Pleasant video), play a cool game, and much more!

BATTLE OF THE DUM DIDDYS: Rotten School #12 by R.L. Stine
Hey! Where Is Everyone?
That's what Bernie Bridges wants to know when he can't find any of his friends. Everyone has disappeared! And when he finally does find them, they're acting really weird. For instance, his shy friend Chipmunk thinks he is a fearless warrior, and football star Jennifer Ecch thinks she is a princess. What is going on?
Soon Bernie realizes that everyone at Rotten School is acting! They are all playing parts in a big battle. A battle between the Dum Diddys and the Knighty Knight Knights. But it's not a real fight. It's a video game called Wungo Warriors --- and everyone has to pay that spoiled rich kid Sherman Oaks to play.
Bernie can't let Sherman get away with this. He has a plan to outsmart Sherman --- by bringing the Wungo Warriors to life!
What Bernie doesn't know, though, is that a real-life battle between the Dum Diddys and the Knighty Knight Knights could shut down Rotten School forever.

Don't Miss: THE WIZARDOLOGY HANDBOOK and PIRATEOLOGY: GUIDEBOOK AND MODEL SET by Dugald A. Steer
|
|
THE WIZARDOLOGY HANDBOOK: A Course for Apprentices by Dugald A. Steer When we last heard from the legendary Merlin, he had fashioned a journal --- known to magic enthusiasts as WIZARDOLOGY: The Book of the Secrets of Merlin --- from the trunk of a tree in which he'd been imprisoned, divulging centuries' worth of knowledge and insight on the mystical world, in hopes of finding his next great successor. In this companion volume, scribbled on the remaining pieces of his wooden confines, he once again extends the invitation to wizards-in-training.
